Brooke's 2nd Birthday

Dear Brooke,

Wow you are 2 years old today! This is such a fun age with your mind development exploding. You know all the basic colors, many animals including farm, wild and water and their corresponding sounds, have started counting up to 5 consistently and sometimes up to 11 and speak in short sentences. You like to repeat many things we say and have picked up saying “how ‘bout” like when reading books you say “how ‘bout this one” or when you want more “how ‘bout more?”

Besides your growing developments the biggest news this letter is you are a big sister! Skylar has been with us for about a month and you have adjusted great. You were only a little jealous the first couple of days but still sometimes when daddy holds Skylar you get a little jealous. Otherwise this change hasn’t seemed to affect you much. You acknowledge her occasionally like saying “Skylar crying” or you’ll give her the binky or her toy. I have to be careful not to wrap Skylar in one of your blankets which can be a little tricky because you like them all!

You have grown really fond of Kolby this past month and almost everyday request the doggy toys which you give him one by one. I fully expect when Skylar becomes playful you’ll have lots of fun with her too.

We had a quiet day at home for your birthday this year but it was complete with cake and ice cream. Your big gift was a new trike! Too bad the weather didn’t cooperate so you only got to ride it around the house. Its a 3 stage trike which is good because you can’t reach the peddles too well yet. Although your birthday was quiet you got to spend an entire month with grandparents who were here for the birth of Skylar. You loved doing arts and crafts with Grandma Patterson while Great Grams held your sleeping baby sister. Also on your birthday we chatted with all of the grandparents online so they could wish you a happy birthday!

We’ve had some achievements and terrible 2s to deal with recently. The achievement is brushing your teeth! I think it helped having Gigi start brushing your teeth because you definitely would not let me do it. Now you actually enjoy it every night! The terrible 2s is nap and bed time. Sometimes you are a sweetheart with laying down to sleep and other times you scream like crazy when we leave but fortunately that lasts no more than about 20 seconds. I’m thankful you are still in your crib which will probably be the case until you are able to climb out.

So this will be your last monthly letter, I’ll switch to every 2 or 3 months from here on. I can’t wait to see what this next year has in store for us with your growing little mind!
